DELHI, 31st Aug 2026: Delhi Police have arrested a bus driver and conductor in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh inside a moving sleeper bus that travelled nearly 47 kilometres across the National Capital Region.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of August 4. The survivor, a Class 11 student from Mainpuri district, had been travelling towards Noida when she became stranded at Pari Chowk during heavy rain and darkness.
Police said the two accused, identified as driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep, were arrested from a bus parking area in Timarpur. The sleeper bus allegedly used in the crime has also been seized and sent for forensic examination.
What Police Say Happened That Night
According to Delhi Police, the student had left her home without informing her family following a disagreement. She was travelling to meet her cousin in Noida.
Heavy rain and poor visibility reportedly caused her to get off at Pari Chowk by mistake. While she was stranded, an empty sleeper bus approached the area.
The student signalled the bus to stop and sought help. Police said the driver and conductor allowed her to board after telling her that the bus was headed towards Noida Sector-63.
The alleged assault began after the bus started moving.
According to the student’s complaint, the conductor made obscene advances towards her. She alleged that both the driver and conductor subsequently raped her and threatened to kill her when she resisted.
Police said the accused later abandoned her on Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal and fled.
Delhi Sleeper Bus Gang-Rape Probe

The student contacted Kashmere Gate police after being abandoned and reported the alleged assault.
Investigators subsequently traced and arrested the driver and conductor from a bus parking lot in Timarpur.
The bus has been seized as part of the investigation and is undergoing forensic examination. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s movement and the alleged crime.
According to police sources, the bus had earlier suffered a mechanical breakdown and had been taken to a workshop in Surajpur for repairs.
After the repairs were completed, the driver and conductor were reportedly taking the empty vehicle towards Timarpur when they encountered the student at Pari Chowk.
Investigators said the sleeper bus’s curtained interior was a key factor in the alleged crime.
Unlike a conventional bus, the sleeper vehicle had curtained berths that restricted visibility from outside. Police said this meant that people passing the vehicle could not see what was happening inside during the late-night journey.
The bus travelled approximately 47 kilometres from Pari Chowk to Kashmere Gate.
Police are examining the vehicle as part of the forensic investigation to establish further evidence related to the alleged assault.
The investigation remains underway, and the allegations against the accused are subject to the outcome of the legal process.
The case has put the focus on an alleged crime that unfolded inside a moving commercial vehicle across the NCR, with the victim ultimately seeking help from the police after being abandoned near Kashmere Gate.
The arrests of the driver and conductor mark the first major action in the investigation. The seized bus and forensic examination are expected to form part of the evidence being examined by investigators.
Delhi Police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events from the moment the student boarded the bus at Pari Chowk until she was allegedly abandoned near Kashmere Gate.
Further investigation is underway.
The disturbing element in this case is not simply the alleged assault, but the setting in which police say it occurred: an empty moving bus travelling through a densely populated metropolitan region. The survivor was allegedly offered assistance after being stranded in heavy rain, only for that situation to turn into a crime. The arrests provide an important first step, but the investigation must now establish the full sequence of events through forensic evidence and other available evidence. The central takeaway is straightforward: allegations this serious demand a thorough investigation, accountability under law, and protection of the survivor throughout the legal process.
