MUMBAI, 29th Aug 2026: A DRI drug trafficking operation in Mumbai has disrupted an international narcotics route running between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Officers seized 547 grams of cocaine and methaqualone and arrested two foreign nationals.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has broken up an international drug trafficking route allegedly operating between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, intercepting a consignment containing cocaine and methaqualone.

The operation followed targeted intelligence concerning the inter-state movement of narcotics. DRI officers mounted surveillance at Mira Road in Mumbai, where they intercepted a Kenyan woman who had travelled by bus from Indore.

A Nigerian national was also intercepted at the location. According to the DRI, he had arrived to collect the delivery.

The operation brought an alleged cross-border trafficking link into focus, with investigators now examining where the seized narcotics came from and where they were intended to go.

Two Packets, 547 Grams of Contraband

During a search of the Kenyan passenger’s luggage, DRI officers discovered two packets carrying “LV” markings.

The packets contained a white crystalline substance. Field testing was conducted using NDPS diagnostic kits, which confirmed the presence of cocaine and methaqualone.

The combined weight of the seized substances was 547 grams.

The seizure has now been formally recorded under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Both foreign nationals were arrested under the law.

The seizure marks a significant disruption to the movement of narcotics across state lines. More importantly, the investigation isn’t stopping with the bags that were intercepted.

DRI officials said further investigation is underway to identify downstream links and map broader syndicate networks connected to the trafficking route.
