Then came 2013. The Trinamool Congress government under Mamata Banerjee moved the secretariat to Nabanna in Howrah. A new administrative chapter, yes. Also a deliberate shift in political identity.

Now the pendulum is swinging back.

This is not about real estate. It is about narrative control.Party insiders are not pretending otherwise. Reclaiming Writers’ Building is being seen as a clear break from the Trinamool era. A reset. A signal that the administrative language of Bengal is being rewritten.

Still, the party has not formally confirmed the shift post-results. That caution is deliberate. Big decisions are not announced in noise. They are staged.

Suvendu Adhikari is at the centre of that conversation. His wins in Nandigram and Bhabanipur are not routine victories. They carry weight. Especially Bhabanipur, where Mamata Banerjee lost by over 15,000 votes.

Adhikari has reportedly been called to New Delhi. Discussions are ongoing at the highest level. The BJP is expected to finalise its legislative party leader soon, but until then, the silence is strategic.

On Monday, during counting, Nabanna saw something unusual. Central forces sealed both the inside and the outside of the 15-storey building in Mandirtala, Howrah. Entry and exit points were locked down. Bags screened. Movement restricted.

It reflected the scale of transition.

A government exiting. Another preparing to step in. Administrative systems do not switch overnight. They tighten first.And that is exactly what happened.
